MODULE 10 - OBJECTIVES

After you have completed this module you should be able to do the following:

- 1) Draw in and label the Circle of Willis and basilar artery on a ventral view of the brain, along with the major branches given off by these vessels.
- 2) Draw in the territory supplied by the anterior, middle and posterior cerebral arteries on lateral and midsagittal views of the brain.
- 3) Draw in the territory supplied by various vessels on frontal sections through the hemisphere and brainstem.
- 4) Work out the syndromes associated with various vascular lesions of the brain.
- 5) Describe the relationship between exiting cranial nerves and the arteries that run on the basal surface of the brainstem. For example, a berry aneurysm (Blumenfeld, Pages 146-7 and Figure 5.20) of the anterior inferior cerebellar artery, at the point where it arises from the basilar, might damage which cranial nerve?
