MODULE 1
OBJECTIVES
- - After you have completed this module you should be able to do the following:
----- 1) Identify on a real skull, and also on our drawings, the bones which contribute to the surface of the cranial cavity and the major landmarks that can be visualized from within the cavity
----- 2) Describe the meninges, as well as the partitions which they form within the cranial cavity. You should also be able to describe the major venous sinuses, and to draw in all these "meninges-related" structures on appropriate views of the brain.
----- 3) Be familiar with the extent and content of the epidural, subdural and subarachnoid spaces. Understand the functional role played by arachnoid granulations.
----- 4) Be able to describe the sites where CSF is formed, how it flows through the ventricular and subarachnoid spaces and where it is reabsorbed into the venous system.
----- 5) Identify the major landmarks visible on the various surfaces of the cerebral hemisphere.
----- 6) Be able to describe how the migration of tissue, associated with the development of the cerebral hemisphere, has given rise to C-shaped structures (the caudate nucleus) and spaces (the lateral ventricle)
----- 7) Identify the major structures that can be seen when the hemisphere is sectioned in either the coronal (frontal) plane or the horizontal one.
