THE DORSAL COLUMN - MEDIAL LEMNISCUS (DC-ML) PATHWAY
AN OVERVIEW
We will draw in most of the pathways we study in this course on dorsal views of the brainstem such as those of Figure 2-4 and Figure 2-5 . The first view of this module, Figure 3-1, aims to accomplish two things: 1) it reminds you of where the divisions of the brainstem are, and of the color code used to identify them, and 2) it tries to show how fibers passing from the thalamus to the cerebral cortex (the numbered arrows) pass through different parts of the internal capsule. After these fibers escape above the gap between the caudate and the putamen (Figure 1-41), they are known as the corona radiata (Figure 1-46).
Figure 3-2 draws in the DC-ML pathway on a view of this sort.
