THE HYPOGLOSSAL NERVE
The hypoglossal nucleus can be seen in slides 1-6. Fibers exit throughout this region, but they can never be clearly seen. Once again, you can use Figure 9-1 to view all these slides,but we suggest that you just focus on Cu Slide 5. Note the position of the hypoglossal nucleus, close to the midline and just beneath the floor of the fourth ventricle and observe the close relationship of the exiting fibers as they pass by the medial lemniscus and pyramid. To remind yourself of the nature of the corticobulbar input to this nucleus, take a look at Figure 8-26.
