MODULE 12
OBJECTIVES
- - - After you have finished this module and the suggested reading you should be able to do the following:
----- - - 1) Describe where the first order neurons of the auditory and vestibular pathways enter the brain and how they terminate.
----- - - 2) Draw a schematic diagram of the auditory pathway, as it ascends from the cochlear nuclei to the auditory cortex.
----- - - 3) Identify the following auditory structures on slides: the cochlear nuclei, the trapezoid body, the lateral lemniscus, the inferior colliculus, the brachium of the inferior colliculus and the medial geniculate nucleus.
------ - 4) Describe, or identify on a diagram, the route taken by the fibers that pass from the medial geniculate nucleus to the auditory cortex.
----- - - 5) Identify the inferior and medial vestibular nuclei on slides.
----- - - 6) Draw diagrams showing how the vestibular nuclei send projections to the oculomotor, trochlear and abducens nuclei, and to the spinal cord.
