     The caudate nucleus has a long tail (hence, its name) which is drawn out into the temporal lobe. It ends there by "bumping into" another basal ganglia nucleus - the amygdala. The amygdala is also in direct contact dorsally with the ventral edge of the putamen, as shown in the previous figure.
