- - The rostral end of the neural tube undergoes a series of regional expansions to generate the final form of the brain. In early development (3-4 weeks) there are three primary vesicles:

  • 1. Forebrain = Prosencephalon
  • 2. Midbrain = Mesencephalon
  • 3. Hindbrain = Rhombencephalon
