TRIP 1 #3 - The fibers of the medial stria cross, forming the (minor) anterior limb of the anterior commissure. The fibers of the lateral stria now turn the corner and head into the temporal lobe. They are determined to reach the amygdala and the overlying (periamygdaloid) cortex but they aren't there yet. A few fibers terminate in the olfactory cortex of the anterior perforfated substance region. NEXT

TRIP 2 #9 - The fornix (red arrow) descends just rostral to the

Interventricular Foramen. It looks like it will "bump into" the anterior commissure. In fact, most of the fibers will pass behind (caudal to) the commissure and continue to terminate in the mammillary body. A few (never well seem) will pass anterior to the commissure and end in the septum.. Others will make a very sharp turn to terminate in the Anterior Nucleus of the thalamus. The stria terminalis has reached its destination, the Bed Nucleus of the Stria Terminalis, which is found in the region marked by the light blue arrow head.

Now click "caudal 1" 7 times and trace the fornix as it passes caudally to terminate in the mammillary body. We will meet you at Slide 32.
