TRIP 1 #3 - As promised, the olfactory tract has indeed split into medial and lateral stria. We can't see the medial stria, but we know it must pass more or less as shown to cross the midline in the anterior commissure and continue distally in the contralateral olfactory tract. We should mention that it is a minor component of the commissure. Most of the fibers in the anterior commissure connect temporal lobe structures. The lateral stria can be made out on the slides; most of these fibers are headed for the temporal lobe, but a few will end in the olfactory cortex which lies on the

brain's surface in the region called the anterior perforated substance. NEXT
